Wareham stops 41, Wolverines win in Swan River

Jase Wareham put on an incredible performance as the Wolverines skated off the ice in Swan River with a 5-0 win over the Swan Valley Stampeders.

Wareham stopped 41 shots to get his first MJHL shutout, and give the Wolverines a two game win streak before they take on the Northern Manitoba Blizzard on Saturday night.

The Wolverines got on the board, 9:34 into the game when Deegan Wapass picked off a pass and was able to snipe it past the Stampeders goaltender.

The second Wolverines goal was a tip in front by Griffin Ayotte from a point shot by Ryley Cyca.

There was no goals scored in the second period, but the referees started making their presence known, as there was six penalties called, three for each team. No one was able to score on the powerplay.

In the third period, the Wolverines extended their lead when Jaxon Grosdidier and Reegan Kominko played a little give and go to make it 3-0.

The floodgates opened after that, as Aidan Herring and Cole Hunter’s first goal of his junior career, gave the Wolverines a 5-0 lead.

The Wolverines put up 40 shots in the win, with Elias Giaccari-Dimitriou stopping 35 in the loss.

The Wolverines improve to 2-2 on the year, and head up to The Pas to take on the Blizzard at 7:00pm on Saturday.
